Sam is a 13 year old boy who is an 8th grade student at Teel Jr. High School in Modesto California. He began to show signs of having arthritis at the age of 2. Although the disease has taken his vision and damaged his hearing, in addition to leaving him in fairly severe pain on a regular basis, it has not taken his spirit.
Sam loves animals, especially lions. One of his favorite hobbies is to go to zoos to "see" the animals. He has been to zoos throughout California, as well as Idaho, Alaska and the National Zoo in Washington D.C. Another of his hobbies is trains. He gets great joy out of putting together interesting track formations and having his trains run the track.
Sam does very well academically, earning a 4.0 GPA on his last report card.

The Arthritis Walk® is the Arthritis Foundation’s annual nationwide event that raises awareness and funds to fight arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability. It is a tremendous opportunity to help improve the lives of the 46 million men, women and children doctor-diagnosed with arthritis.
